Understanding Your License Status
Once activated, Settings → License shows several pieces of status information. Here's exactly what each one means.
| FieldWhat it means | |
| Edition | ESDC Pro (unlimited turnover) or Free (capped at $100,000/year). |
| Activated with | Whether this device was activated via a Defy account sign-in or a typed license key. |
| License expires | The real end date of your subscription. This is the one to watch for renewal — it only changes when your subscription is actually renewed or changed. |
| Next license check | When the app will next confirm your license is still valid with the license server. Normally within the hour. |
| Offline grace until | How long this specific device can keep working if it loses internet access entirely. Far sooner than your real expiry, and rolls forward automatically every time the device successfully checks in. |
Why two different "expiry" dates?
XPOS ESDC is offline-first: your Device keeps signing invoices even with zero internet access, using the last license status it confirmed. To make that safe, each device holds a signed, time-limited credential (the "offline grace") separate from your actual subscription end date. As long as the device can reach the license server every so often, that credential keeps renewing itself automatically and you'll never notice it — "Offline grace until" will always stay comfortably far in the future.
It only matters if a device goes without internet access for an extended stretch. If that happens, the device will eventually show as unlicensed until it can reach the license server again — at which point it recovers on its own, with no re-activation needed, as long as your subscription is still valid.
Checking right now
Click Check license now to force an immediate check-in instead of waiting for the scheduled one — useful right after renewing, upgrading, or changing your plan.
What happens if your license is rejected
If your subscription lapses, is suspended, or this device's seat is freed from elsewhere, the next check-in demotes this device to the Free edition automatically and clears its saved credential. You'll need to reactivate (Sign in with Your Defy Account, or your license key) once the situation is resolved. On Pro, your admin is emailed automatically when this happens — see Admin Email Notifications.
